Awareness

It is a well-known fact that prevention is better than cure and when it comes to Thalassaemia, prevention is the only cure at least for the present. Awareness is definitely the first step in the process of preventing this genetic disorder. Steps are taken to increase the awareness levels among the rural and the urban masses specially those between the age group 18-40, that this disorder is genetic and is not infectious i.e. it cannot be passed from an individual to the other by personal or any  other contact. They are also informed about the simple test that can help to prevent the marriage between two Thalassaemia Minor individuals.

In addition to this, during the special camps that are organized in the high risk communities the religious and community leaders are also involved to help in removing the social stigma. So far, IMSRF through its Thalassaemia Control and Prevention Program (TCPP) has been able to reach out to more than 15 lakh people  through    mass awareness campaigns in schools and colleges by the way of lectures, seminars and exhibitions.

Target Group
  • College students
  • Unmarried Men/Women
  • Newly married couples
  • Antenatal women
  • High risk communities
  • Patients’ extended family

I am a Thalassaemic child!

Taking life as it comes puts one on cloud nine,
Have I to suffer for no fault of mine!
All that was needed was a little precaution,
Life for me  has turned into suffering and  medication!
Awareness is the need of the hour,
Self restraint can save a life from getting sour!
Seek the welfare of the next generation,
Ask not why this new education!
Every life has a right to bloom,
Mine unfortunately is  destined to doom!
In every young person let there be wisdom,
Avoid Thalassaemia Major and  experience freedom!
